One Ingredient Brown Rice Pizza Base

Can you believe this pizza base has only ONE ingredient? Guess what it is? Yep that’s right – brown rice!

I have created another plant based pizza crust recipe made out of cauliflower, which is also delicious. This one is neither better nor worse, it’s just different (and easier). You can’t have too many healthy pizza base recipes, right?

BENEFITS OF BROWN RICE

Brown rice is a good source of selenium, a trace mineral that has been shown to substantially reduce the risk of colon cancer. Selenium is an essential component of several major metabolic pathways, including thyroid hormone metabolism, antioxidant defense systems, and immune function.

Brown rice contains many powerful phytonutrients. One type of phytonutrient abundant is plant lignans. These are converted by friendly flora in our intestines into mammalian lignans, including one called enterolactone that is thought to protect against breast and other hormone-dependent cancers as well as heart disease.

The health benefits of phenolic compounds in brown rice are known to exert preventive activity against infectious and degenerative diseases, inflammation and allergies, thanks to their antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. Phenolic compounds are reactive metabolites in a wide range of plant-derived foods and mainly divided into four groups: phenolic acids, flavonoids, stilbenes and tannins. They work as terminators of free radicals and chelators of metal ions that are capable of catalysing lipid oxidation.
