I know calling this “The Best and Easiest Green Smoothie Recipe” is a bold claim, but I stick by it. I have drunk many different smoothies over the past ten years of my health journey, and this is one of my favourites, if not my favourite. It is creamy, flavourful and chock full of nutrients. There are only five ingredients and they should be readily available all year round in most areas of the world (when not in season, mango should be available frozen at your local health food store or supermarket). Therefore, you can drink this healthy and delicious smoothie regularly, which I’m sure you’ll also want to do after tasting it. I find it very helpful to have such an easy, yummy recipe on hand that I can rely on to satisfy and help me feel great.
The health benefits of spinach
Please don’t let the four cups of spinach deter you from making this smoothie. I promise you won’t even taste it. Spinach is one of the best sources of magnesium and potassium. It is also high in iron, zinc, Vitamin C, calcium, Vitamin K and A and B vitamins. Magnesium and Vitamin K are very important for bone health, and four cups of baby spinach has five times your recommended daily allowance of Vitamin K. It works with Vitamin D to improve bone density and lowers your risk of bone fractures. This smoothie contains fifteen percent of your daily recommended allowance of iron from the spinach. Drinking it regularly can help reduce your risk of anemia. Antioxidants like lutein, zeaxanthin, beta carotene and chlorophyll all help to fight oxidative stress and boost the immune system. These are all contained in baby spinach and help your body to fight off infections and stay healthy.
If you have a histamine intolerance, obviously eating spinach won’t be suitable for you. In this case, you can simply omit it, or substitute a low histamine green of your choice. A handful of arugula, cilantro, butter lettuce or mint are some low histamine alternatives. Tuscan kale can be substituted for curly kale, which has a lower histamine level.
This is also a perfect green smoothie for beginners. So if you aren’t sure where to begin when it comes to green smoothies, or know someone who is wanting to start drinking them, then this recipe is perfect! Throw these ingredients in a blender for breakfast or lunch and you have a simple and tasty drink.
