What if I told you that you could utilise one of strongest healing powers on the planet for free every single day? Well you can. It is called Earthing or Grounding. There has been many studies which have demonstrated the potential of grounding to be a simple, natural, and accessible practice to fight against the global epidemic of degenerative and inflammatory-related diseases.
What is earthing?
Mother Nature emits a constant flow of direct current that it continually stores from the sun’s energy. This current flows in the form of electrons from the earth. The human body naturally absorbs electrical charges from the earth because the skin acts like a conductor. When we make direct contact with the earth and our bare skin, we tap into this unlimited energy source which allows us to experience many amazing health benefits. This practice is called earthing.
Unfortunately, with our rubber or plastic soled shoes, and our modern day lifestyle with so many people working indoors, we no longer have a natural electrical connection to the earth.
Why is this connection so important?
The earth has an ever-lasting supply of negatively charged electrons. Toxins in our bodies are positively charged and without that connection to negative electrons we aren’t able to find a healthy balance. Too many positive ions in our bodies is associated with inflammation and disease, and this can be seen in our blood by the way in which the cells clump together. (See image below).
These days our bodies are constantly being flooded with positive ions because we are surrounded by radiation from computers, mobile phones, TVs, WiFi, power lines etc. This radiation disrupts the electrical communications which are essential to our bodies functioning properly. Being grounded to the earth allows us to greatly reduce our level of exposure to this radiation. We are shielded by the earth’s abundant electrical energy. Without this protection our bodies are being fried by the electrical magnetic fields and they have to call in their own resources to fight off the EMFs. Nobel Prize winner, Richard Feynman, in his lectures on electromagnetism, explained that when the body is grounded, it has the ability to cancel, reduce or push away electric fields from the body.
David Wolfe states: “If you’re in front of a computer you’re one hundred times safer being grounded than if you’re not. The earth’s energy literally comes up through you and pushes the EMFs off you by one hundred times.”
Benefits of grounding
Positive ions in the body cause inflammation, so once you’re able to neutralise those free radicals with the electrons from the earth, inflammation begins to subside. Earthing reduces and even prevents the cardinal signs of inflammation following injury such as redness, heat, swelling, and pain. Connecting the body to the earth enables free electrons from the earth’s surface to spread over and into the body, where they have antioxidant effects.

Ways to ground yourself
The easiest way to ground yourself is simply to go outside and place your bare feet, or any part of your body, on some grass, earth, or sand on the beach (if you’re lucky enough to live near the ocean).
You can also immerse yourself in conductive water such as the sea or a mineral-rich lake.
Use earthing equipment
Grounding companies have dedicated themselves to creating earthing equipment. This provides a practical and convenient way for people to ground themselves inside too. This is especially good if you work in an office all day and gives you the opportunity to take advantage of the earth’s healing properties all day. I personally use the earthing bed sheets. Our bodies cleanse themselves the most when we are sleeping, so grounding during this time supports the detoxification process and allows us to heal at a faster rate. I also use the earthing single band while working on the computer. I find I can work without experiencing a stimulated nervous system, or getting tension headaches, which I used to get from being around a computer for an extended period of time.
You cannot earth too much. In fact, the more you earth, the greater the benefits. Take off your shoes and get out in nature every day, and purchase some of the equipment to experience maximum benefits.
